PANALANGIN NG BAYAN
Ika-14 na Linggo sa Karaniwang Panahon
Huwebes

Amen.

REFLECTION: In the First Reading (Hosea 11:1-4, 8e-9), the Prophet Hosea speaks of a loving God who wills for the salvation of his people despite their sinfulness and weaknesses. The prophecy recalls the story of salvation history when the chosen people of God, Israel, were delivered from slavery in Egypt. Unfortunately this stubborn and stiff-necked people did not heed the message of the Lord carefully and faithfully, which is why they have turned their backs against him. And the Lord is not pleased with their sins, which is why in many ways he punished them. But at the same time, this God is a merciful Lord who wills the salvation of his people. And at the fullness of time, he sends in his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to redeem us from our sin and to teach us the proper and charitable way of life.

In the Gospel (Matthew 10:7-15), Jesus sends the Twelve Apostles on the same mission he is doing. He commands them to preach the Good News, heal the sick, raise the dead, and expel demons. He also tells them not to carry anything along the way. They are to do their mission, trusting that God will provide them. The Gospel passage may seem like addressed to the Church because to heal the sick, raise the dead, and expel demons may seem very impossible for us to do. And not all of us are dreaming to be future priests someday. Simply, Jesus is telling us that we are all part of the missionary work.

Throughout the years, the Church continues to remind us that Evangelization is not only done through proclamation, but also through witness/lifestyle. teachers teaching their students, engineers building infrastructures, doctors and nurses caring for their patients, policemen and soldiers fighting for peace, order, and security, government officials and politicians carrying out their projects for the common good of the citizens, and many more. These are wonderful examples of Evangelization. When we proclaim God’s word, we are also to live it in action. So as we journey down this road, may we all take part in spreading the Good News through words and actions. May we also provide the physical and spiritual needs to others.
