(c) Awit at Papuri Communications - www.awitatpapuri.com
(c) Awit at Papuri Communications - www.awitatpapuri.com
(c) Awit at Papuri Communications - www.awitatpapuri.com

MABUTING BALITA
Lucas 17, 5-10

Ang Mabuting Balita ng Panginoon ayon kay San Lucas
(c) Awit at Papuri Communications - www.awitatpapuri.com
(c) Awit at Papuri Communications - www.awitatpapuri.com

REFLECTION: The Readings for today remind us about faith. In the First Reading (Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4), we hear this minor prophet in the Old Testament named “Habakkuk” (Ang propetang mahilig magluto nang matagal. Hahaha, Joke lang). This name means “embrace”. In the passage, we see how this prophet moans over the destruction of Judah by the Babylonians. He asks God why he did not listen to his cry for help, instead allows him to see destruction of the city. The Lord replies by revealing a vision and asking Habakkuk to write it down, and the one who has faith shall be saved. In the Second Reading (2 Timothy 1:6-8, 13-14), Saint Paul reminds Saint Timothy, Bishop of Ephesus, to continue passing down the grace given by God, a spirit of power and self-control. He also exhorts us to be courageous with faith in preaching the Gospel, even in times of sufferings and difficulties. In the Gospel (Luke 17:5-10), the Apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith. But Jesus reminds them that wish can’t just be granted at once. He reminds them that they must have faith like a mustard seed, meaning to say, our belief and expression in God should begin in small matters, so that as time passes by, big fruits of abundance in our lives may be produced and handed down to others. Alongside, he tells a parable about the attitude of a servant, that we should not only depend on God and do nothing. “We are unprofitable servants” (v. 10). This is true because we serve others with kindness, and we do not expect anything in return. That is what is meant of expressing our faith in thoughts, words, and deeds.
My dear brothers and sisters, the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) tells us that faith is one of the Theological virtues because “we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is truth itself. By faith ‘man freely commits his entire self to God.’ For this reason the believer seeks to know and do God’s will. ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’ Living faith “work[s] through charity.” (CCC 1804). To have faith in God means that we believe in all he has done and revealed, and he wants us to share that faith with others with courage in him. It’s not only enough to hope for a miracle everyday, which is why the sad reality of prayer is that we only do this because we want something. No, rather we should remember our purpose in the world, why God placed us here, and what he mission he entrusted us to do. And that’s what Jesus reminds us, to be unprofitable servants of kindness and goodness towards others, since because that faith is like a mustard seed, it shall soon sprout into large bushes and tress of abundance in our life journeys. So as we journey down this road, let us express our faith and devotion to the Lord with courage and obedience to his will, especially in serving our brothers and sisters.
